Twentieth Century Fox is to co-produce a third film based on C.S Lewis's "Chronicles of Narnia" books, one month after Disney's withdrawal placed the franchise in doubt, reports said Thursday.
Daily Variety reported that Fox would join Walden Media in developing "The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader," which faced an uncertain future after Disney's decision to pull out of the project.
Tentative plans are for the film to be shot later this year in time for release in 2010, Variety reported. Fox and Walden will share the cost for the film, estimated at 140 million dollars, Variety reported.
The two previous films in the series "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" and "Prince Caspian" have grossed nearly 1.2 billion dollars worldwide since the first film was released in 2005.
