Tourism Fiji, industry partners and regional offices in major source markets now have in place a tactical campaign for the next three months collating reports of the adverse weather conditions and flooding in Fiji and its impact on the industry.
Tourism Fiji chairman Patrick Wong said his office was in constant contact with industry partners monitoring weather conditions on the ground and reporting back to regional offices around the world on the state of the tourism industry.
He said survey reports also included prevailing weather conditions and any operational function that may impact travellers to Fiji.
“Our regional offices are disseminating information and reporting to wholesalers and travel agents in our major source markets.
“Also, governments in our major source markets are telling their citizens to check their travel with their travel agents prior to travel for Fiji,” Wong told FijiLive.
He said industry partners, private sector and Air Pacific had amended changes to their cancellation policy giving visitors options with changes to their travel made without any penalties.
“Tactical campaign has been confirmed with our industry partners – Air Pacific, Air New Zealand, Pacific Blue, wholesalers and the private sector for the next three months in our major source markets with attractive packages sold at price point and value added,” Wong said.
“These packages are being made affordable for an average traveller,” he said.
Wong said the prevailing weather conditions had impacted on tourist holidays.
However, he said Fiji’s tourism industry was resilient and had survived the toughest of challenges.
Meanwhile, he said tourists who were stranded in hotels around Nadi were transferred by police and the military to the Nadi International Airport to connect on their international flights.
He said boats were being used ferrying tourists from Port Denarau to Wailoaloa Beach making connection with international flights.
