The romantic comedy "Four Christmases" has plenty to be jolly about as it topped North American box office charts for a second weekend in a row, industry figures indicated Sunday.

Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn, playing a couple struggling to visit all four of their divorced parents on Christmas, brought the Warner Bros. comedy 18.18 million dollars over the three-day weekend, Exhibitor Relations said.

Teen vampire movie "Twilight" failed to chomp on the dramatic lead of "Four Christmases" but made its way to second place with 13.2 million dollars.

The indie feature was in third place last weekend, a spot now taken by Disney's animated "Bolt," which barked up 9.7 million dollars.

"Australia," the period romance featuring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman, also moved up one rank to fourth place with seven million dollars, bringing its total box office sales to 30.87 million dollars.

The weekend after the US Thanksgiving holiday is traditionally quiet, but the top 12 films this weekend still outperformed the same period last year by 6.42 percent.

Only two new releases made the top 10. The utterly revengeful sequel "Punisher: War Zone" secured eighth place with 4 million despite playing at almost four times more theaters than musical biopic "Cadillac Records" at 3.5 million dollars.

"Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa" has roared 165.7 million dollars worth of total ticket sales for Paramount since the animated feature made its debut five weeks ago.

James Bond thriller "Quantum of Solace" finished one spot ahead of "Madagascar" with 6.6 million dollars, earning a total of 151.47 million dollars after four weekends.

"Role Models" closed the top 10 at 2.62 million dollars.

Despite playing in only three cinemas, "Frost/Nixon" cashed in 180,147 dollars for its debut, a staggering average of 60,049 dollars per theater.

Ron Howard's drama documents the historic 1977 interviews between disgraced former president Richard Nixon (Frank Langella) and TV personality David Frost (Michael Sheen) that lasted nearly 30 hours.
