A Mauritian banker was found dead in his hotel room after Indian commandos ended the siege of the Taj Hotel in Mumbai by Islamic militants, Prime Minister Navin Chandra Ramgoolam told AFP Saturday.
The body of Shaitlall Gunness, executive director of the State Bank of Mauritius, was found after Indian special forces killed the last militants on Saturday morning.
Gunness was on a business trip to Mumbai with his wife Amrita and was staying at the Taj Hotel. His wife was in the luxury hotel's business centre making a telephone call when the militants broke in and was able to take shelter.
Members of the dead man's family left Mauritius on Friday night for Mumbai to identify the body.
Ramgoolam said he had spoken to his Indian counterpart by telephone on Friday and passed on his condolences to the Indian people for the atrocities.
