Road casualties in the past week have mounted, with the latest being a 68-year-old taxi driver of Tavua.

The driver, whose identity has not been revealed, died after a head-on collision in Lomaloma, Vatukoula, last night.

Police spokesman Atunaisa Sokomuri said the other vehicle was being driven by a 28-year-old school teacher, who has been treated for injuries and sent home.

He said the accident happened at 9.30pm.

Sokomuri added that police were investigating the accident.

The road death toll now stands at 57 compared to 51, six more than the same period last year.
