Corporate organisations that help sponsor the 2010 Fiji International Film Festival will be in line for a 200 per cent tax rebate.
The measure was among those highlighted when the 2009 Budget was handed down yesterday by interim Prime Minister and acting Finance Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama.
Another measure announced was the raising of the tax rebate for filmmakers from 15 per cent to 35 per cent.
This means that if a foreign filmmaker invests $1 million to shoot a movie in Fiji, that investor will get $350,000 back in his pockets.
The measure aims to help Fiji to compete with other movie locations like Australia and South Africa.
It evolved from an initiative taken up after the Mini Economic Summit.
During the summit, the working group on the audiovisual industry said South Africa and Australia had beaches and natural locations similar to Fiji and filmmakers were choosing the bigger nations because they offered bigger tax rebates.
Australia gives a 20 per cent tax rebate to filmmakers while South Africa offers 25 per cent.
The Chairman of the Working Group, Sharon Smith-Johns, said Fiji needed to compete if it intended to make money from the audiovisual sector.
