Fiji authorities are now trying to retrieve the body of a man trapped inside a silo full of dhal which collapsed in Suva just two hours ago.

Owned by Flour Mills of Fiji at its Walu Bay complex, the silo contained 100,000 tonnes of dhal.

Police say one man was trapped inside, buried under the dhal.

They also believe the silo was overloaded.

It cannot be confirmed whether the man is still alive.

The area has been cordoned off with fire and police officers at the scene.

Police spokesman Atunaisa Sokomuri said the company had done a roll check and all staff had been accounted for.

“We believe the man was a customer who came for a business dealing with the company,” Sokomuri said.
