Former interim Commerce Minister Taito Waradi has been retired as a Director and Chairman of the Fiji Development Bank.

A statement from the Prime Minister’s office today said Waradi is replaced by John Prasad, a Project Management and Financial Consultant.

Interim Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama, who is also the acting Minister for Finance & National Planning, said that he was pleased in having found a person of the calibre of Prasad, with strong skills in Financial Analysis and Management to chair the FDB.

“In addition to providing guidance on corporate governance issues and overseeing that the Bank is soundly managed, Mr Prasad is expected to immediately finalize the recruitment of a suitable Chief Executive and ensure that the policy directive given by Government to re-orient the focus of the bank to lending to agriculture, small and medium sized enterprises and the core role of development financing is effectively implemented,” the statement said.

Commodore Bainimarama has expressed gratitude to Waradi in implementing the initial phases of the restructuring of the bank’s operations.
