New parts for various faulty machines at Fiji’s largest hospital are due to arrive in the country this week.
Interim Minister for Health Dr Jiko Luveni confirmed this when asked to respond to concerns raised by patients and doctors on failing equipments at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital in Suva.
Dr Luveni admits that the suction machine and CT scan machine, amongst others, have not been working properly for sometime.
“The new parts had been ordered at the beginning of the month and will be arriving today (yesterday),” she said.
“The machines had been repaired but now we will replace the parts so there will be no future problems of these kinds.”
Dr Luveni stressed that her ministry has already started working on its 2009 Budget, which it will submit to the Finance Ministry for approval.
She said the key focus areas would be more funds for drugs and machines.
Solving doctor and nurse shortages around the country is a priority for the ministry too, she adds.
