A raid carried out by the Fiji Police, Military and Customs officers on a foreign shipping vessel in Suva Harbor resulted in the confiscation of liquor and cigarettes worth thousands of dollars yesterday.

Police spokesman Atunaisa Sokomuri told FijiLive that a customs officer on duty saw the vessel loading some parcels into a smaller boat and became suspicious.

“The customs officers informed the police and we decided to raid the vessel, SL Bogo where we found cases of alcohol and cigarettes,” he said.

Sokomuri stressed that the goods confiscated in the raid, were in breach of Fiji’s compliance laws.

He confirmed investigations were underway and the owners of the vessel have been taken in for questioning.
