Interim Defence Minister Ratu Epeli Ganilau is likely to be acting prime minister for another week with the Forum Ministers meeting starting in Niue from next Monday.
Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama comes back from China tomorrow and is expected to head to New Zealand soon after accompanied by interim Foreign Minister Ratu Epeli Nailatikau and interim Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.
The three ministers and two senior officials have been granted transit visa through New Zealand to Niue because Air New Zealand is the only airline company to travel to Niue.
They fly once a week to the tiny island nation and this Saturday will be one of those flights.
According to reports in New Zealand dailies, Bainimarama is likely to fly to Niue with one of his most staunch critics Helen Clark and Australian counterpart Kevin Rudd.
At last year’s Forum meeting in Tonga, Bainimarama committed the interim Government to hold a general election by March next year.
Fiji will be at the centre of discussions at next week’s meeting and Bainimarama will be asked to explain Fiji’s progress towards the commitment.
Acting Commander, Colonel Aziz Mohammed, is also likely to carry on his role as the top man in the military.
