Sandra Corveloni, a Brazilian who won the best actress award at this year's Cannes film festival, has a new starring role in a French theater production that has opened in her native country.

The 43-year-old walks the boards in "Return to the Desert", a play by Frenchman Bernard Maire Koltes that featured Thursday in a line-up in a theater festival in the Brazilian town of Sao Jose do Rio Preto.

The play is to be shown in other towns in Brazil, and in France, over coming months.

Corveloni was honored in Cannes for her first feature film turn as a pregnant single mother in the movie "Line of Passage" directed by fellow Brazilian directors Walter Salles and Daniela Thomas.
