Irish actor Pierce Brosnan and Oscar-winning actress Susan Sarandon will play parents mourning the death of a son in an upcoming drama, it was reported on Monday.

Daily Variety reported that former James Bond star Brosnan and "Thelma and Louise" actress Sarandon would play the lead roles in "The Greatest," which will begin filming later this year.

The movie revolves around a young girl's impact on a family struggling to come to terms with the loss of a teenage son.

Brosnan will next be seen in the big-screen version of Abba musical "Mamma Mia!" and is also planning to return as the billionaire art thief in a sequel to "The Thomas Crown Affair."

Sarandon has recently appeared in futuristic motorsport film "Speed Racer" and has just completed work on Peter Jackson's "The Lovely Bones."
