Fiji is hoping to pursue “all possible avenues of support” from India in the field of Information Communications and Technology (ICT).
This would be under a memorandum of understanding signed in 2005, which has not been utilised so far, Communications Minister Tom Ricketts said Thursday night.
“In this regard we are very optimistic and hopeful that the support from our friends in the sub-continent will lead to a reciprocal relationship that will benefit our ICT industry.”
Ricketts was speaking at the inauguration of the ITC Association of Fiji at the Holiday Inn in Suva last night.
He said India was one such country that serves as a role model to all developing nations looking to enhance the growth of their ICT sectors.
Ricketts said assistance from the Indian Government through this MoU could include the provision of technical assistance, trainings and study to determine competitiveness against other ICT/business processing operations like Mauritius, China and even the Philippines.
“Furthermore, upgrading of skills through hands-on training will all greatly benefit our labour force in the ICT sector.”
