Fiji Islands Revenue and Customs Authority remains vague about the amount of money it is paying in accommodation costs of tax expert Michael Scott.
This follows allegations made by local media that FIRCA was paying $5000 each month on hotel accommodation for the tax consultant who is staying at the Tanoa Plaza in Suva instead of renting a home or being allocated government quarters.
FIRCA chief executive officer Jitoko Tikolevu says he cannot divulge the details of the contract between the authority and Scott, adding that the conditions of Scott’s contract are similar to that of any other expatriate consultant conducting similar type of consultancy work in Fiji.
“Such contracts requires of the retainee to provide for accommodation and other related costs.”
He said Scott was appointed under contract as legal consultant to FIRCA in 2004.
“Mr Scott is a tax lawyer with over 30 years of specialist tax expertise.
“Since 2004, Mr Scott has been providing legal advice and assistance to the authority on all complex aspects of tax.”
