Fiji’s Public Service Commission terminated the appointments of five staff of the Divisional engineer Central/Eastern for fraud-related cases.
The officers allegedly colluded among themselves and fraudulently obtained a payment of over $55,000 from the government between January to 26 March in 2006.
Three of the staff who were based at the Rewa Depot allegedly prepared fictitious claims for grass cutting contracts while two others at the Divisional headquarters processed payments.
The officers pleaded guilty to the committal of disciplinary offences during the hearing of the case by the Commission and admitted sharing the money among themselves.
Appointments of the five officers were terminated by the Commission due to the seriousness of the offence and for breaching the Public Service Code of conduct.
