All companies vying for a mobile phone license in Fiji will now have to win their bid through a public auction.

A first for Fiji, the decision was made at a special Cabinet meeting last week and an announcement expected later this month.

It is understood companies that have been shortlisted can enter the auction and details on this are being finalized by the Commerce ministry.

The interim Government is currently assessing all those that responded to the tender for a mobile licence to operate in Fiji.
