JOB DESCRIPTION
Position: Inclusive Education Secondary Coordinator
Salary range: $40 000 per annum
Reporting Structure:
Reports to: Principal, SENESE School
The Secondary Inclusive Education Coordinator of SENESE will be directly responsible and report to the Principal of SENESE. In this role she is also expected to work collaboratively with the principals of schools that are including students with disabilities.
Primary Responsibilities: The role of coordinator may include but is not limited to:
Direct teaching of groups of students and individual students
Leading the development, implementation and evaluation of a curriculum area or other curriculum program within the school
Participating in activities such as parent/teacher meetings; staff meetings; camps and excursions
Design, implement and monitor individual education plan for students in collaboration with appropriate people, for e.g. class teachers, parents, therapists.
Facilitate staff onsite training and shadowing programmes and other after school professional development courses that are deemed appropriate.
Supervise and assign teacher aides to work with students who are part of the Inclusive Education program at nominated Secondary Schools.
Ensure there is regular feedback on student progress to teachers in the regular classes.
Establish a positive relationship with all families of students involved in the program. Manage learning resources for eg. oversee an inventory of learning support resources for students.
Demonstrated commitment and capacity to contribute to a broad range of school activities and a commitment to ongoing professional learning to enable further development of skills, expertise and teaching capacity.
Prepare monthly reports to the board of SENESE and collaboratively work with the Principal to provide ongoing developments.
Hours of work: 7:30a.m. - 3:30p.m. Monday to Friday; 8 hours a day.
Leave entitlement:
Annual Leave: During school holidays only. . Annual leave does not carry over from one leave year to the next.
Sick Leave: 10 days per year after 3 month probationary period, with maximum 6 days uncertified and medical certificate required after 2 days.
Maternity leave: 6 weeks after 1 year of continuous service.
Family (Compassionate and Paternity) leave will be considered by the Principal on an individual basis, but will not exceed 3 days per situation or a maximum of 6 days per leave year. This leave applies only to a bereavement in respect of immediate family members, such as spouse, child or parent, or for the birth of a child of a male staff member. Compassionate leave cannot be used by a staff member to meet extended family responsibilities.
Study/Personal Development Leave (PDL): Where a staff member studies and sits for an examination for an approved course of study relevant to his/her duties in SNES, leave may be granted under certain situations for no more than 3 working days a year.
Essential Qualifications/ Experience:
1. Degree in Primary/Secondary Education
2. 5 years teaching experience in including students with disabilities in regular classrooms.
3. 5 years experience in an educational leadership role.
4. Advanced skills in communicating with the deaf.
Desirable Qualification/Experience:
1. Further qualifications in Educational studies that would assist in supporting the learning of children with disabilities at a secondary level.
2. Demonstrated ability to work as a team member.
3. Motivated and Flexible.
4. Knowledge of Samoan language and culture

SENESE is a unique inclusive education support service in Samoa. SENESE is working in partnership with the Samoan Ministry of Education , Sports and Culture to support the development of inclusive education for students with disabilities. SENESE has particular strength in supporting , students with hearing impairments and intellectual disabilities from birth to Year 12. A trilingual philosophy (Samoan Sign Language /English/ Samoan) supported by host school curriculums challenges students to achieve their personal best.
Broad based programs cater for the individual needs of each student. Development of the whole child with particular emphasis language,and communication skills is a priority across the curriculum.
SENESE Secondary support centre is located at Vaitele, Samoa, six kilometres from the capital Apia. SENESE also has a primary campus at Lotopa . SENESE has plans to further expand services and support over the next 5 years.
