The Bank of South Pacific (BSP) has announced the appointment of Haroon Ali as its chief risk officer for Fiji.

Ali has over 30 years of banking experience with ANZ in the areas of retail banking, small and medium enterprises, commercial and corporate banking, credit and operating risk, international trade finance and back office operations.

He also served two years in Melbourne with ANZ.

A BSP statement said the chief risk officer is responsible for the bank’s credit, operational and market risks and is also a member of the bank’s executive committee.

Ali holds a Master of Management Degree in Strategic Management from the Southern Cross University and is a Fellow of the Australasian Institute of Banking and Finance and Financial Services Institute of Australasia. In March this year he was recognised and awarded an Honorary Fellow of the Fiji Institute of Bankers.

Announcing the appointment, BSP country manager Kevin McCarthy said Ali’s experience will “contribute vastly in ensuring that we manage our exposures while continuing to focus on our customers”.

Ali said he was impressed by the bank's growth strategy, both in Fiji and the wider Pacific.
