Parks out for revenge over Pumas
Parks out for revenge over Pumas Wednesday October 03, 2007
Dan Parks will be a man on a mission when Scotland's Australian born fly-half runs out against Argentina in their World Cup quarter-final on Sunday.
The 29-year-old still cannot believe that the last time the two sides met in 2005 the Scots lost 23-19 and he is determined to take revenge and see Scotland through to their first semi-final since 1991.
"I really enjoyed the game against Argentina that day but I couldn't believe we lost it," admitted Parks, who scored a try and dropped a goal in that Murrayfield match.
"I always thought we were in control, but you can never count the Argentinians out, they have a never-say-die attitude.
"Argentina just kept coming at us, it was really frustrating. It was a tough loss to take," added Parks, who moved from Australia in 2003 and qualified for Scotland through a maternal grandfather and made his debut in 2004.
Parks, who started his European club career with Leeds but subsequently moved to Glasgow Warriors, highlighted Pumas fly-half Juan Martin Hernandez - the player known as the 'Magician' - and penalty kicking expert Felipe Contepomi as their main worries in the backs.
"Hernandez is a very smooth player and has helped open up their backs division," said Parks.
"But to be fair so has Felipe and not just for his kicking as he is a very competitive player and extremely exciting when he runs with the ball as I've seen to my cost in Celtic League games against Leinster.
