Iraq probes report Al-Qaeda chief killed Wednesday May 02, 2007
Iraqi forces are investigating reports that the alleged leader of Al-Qaeda in Iraq, Abu Ayyub al-Masri, has been killed in a clash between feuding armed factions, officials said Tuesday.
The US military could not confirm the claim, and Iraqi officials admitted they had not yet laid hands on the allegedly slain militant's corpse.
Meanwhile, a pro-American alliance of Sunni tribes claimed responsibility for the alleged slaying.
