Around 30 people were believed to be trapped in a tower block in London Friday after a fire spread through eight floors, London Fire Brigade said.

The blaze, at a tower block in Camberwell, south London, is being attended by around 100 firefighters. It started on the fourth floor and spread to the 11th and involves around 30 people, a brigade spokesman said.

"We're carrying out a search of the building," the spokesman added.

London Ambulance Service said it had been called at around 4:25pm (1525 GMT) and had sent 16 ambulance crews and other staff to the scene.

"Ten people were taken to hospital. Seven of these are understood to be suffering smoke inhalation and the other three are in a serious condition," a spokesman said.
