Suva prepares for more cruise liners

Cruise ships have brought more than 88,000 visitors to the Fiji islands so far this year.

With cruise liners bringing an influx of visitors into Fiji’s capital Suva in recent weeks, two more ships are expected to berth in the Suva harbour before the end of the year.

Pacific Shipping Agencies’ operations supervisor Rajesh Prasad told Fijilive the company expected a cruise liner from New Zealand on November 4 while another is to follow from Australia on November 21.

Prasad said these are the only two liners left to visit this year with around 25 ships having already visited the island nation.

These cruise liners brought 88, 627 passengers to Fiji by the end of October.

The Star Princess due November 4 will be carrying a maximum of 2600 passengers while the Pacific Dawn on November 21 is expected to be carrying a maximum of 2200.

The Amsterdam which docked in the Suva harbour last week left for Sydney, carrying 1187 passengers, most of whom were Americans.
